Local Girl Scouts Donate Buddy Bench to Sunset during Kindness Week

Posted by User Not Found on 30 April, 2015

Rows of second grade students lined the front of the stage as they jubilantly sang songs about kindness to open Sunset Elementary’s Kindness Week Assembly. Throughout the week of April 13-17, Sunset students celebrated kindness with activities and demonstrations. Principal Amanda Dorey shared, “I am so proud of our students this week! I have seen so many acts of kindness, and know that Sunset is a place where we can always find kind and caring students.”

The week culminated with the unveiling of Sunset’s new Buddy Bench, donated by the Robertson Family and Nikki Groberman, Sara Hall, and Staciaa Gillmann from Girl Scouts Troop 53066. The trio of Girl Scouts donated the bench as part of their silver award to benefit their community. Sara shared, “All three of us spent kindergarten through fifth grade at Sunset Elementary. We wanted to give back to a community that was so impactful to us.” During the assembly, Sara, Nikki, and Stacia worked with student volunteers to demonstrate how the Buddy Bench will be used once installed on the playground. The Buddy Bench features light blue waves and a glowing golden sunset. Earlier in the month, students had the opportunity to leave their mark on the Buddy Bench by painting a section.
