Twenty Issaquah Middle School students recently participated in the American Mathematics Competition 8. The 25 question, 40 minute, multiple choice exam covered middle school mathematics and promoted the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The exam provided an opportunity for students to apply the concepts taught in the classroom to real world problems that covered a wide range of applications.

Five math club students earned outstanding honors for their problem solving skills. Jay Sivadas took first place and was honored as the school winner. Vincent Wei placed second. Jay and Vincent’s exam scores were in the top 5% earning them a place on the honor roll. Emily Robinson and Matthew Kim tied for third place.

Math Club Advisor Traci Brewster shared, “We are very proud of all of our Math Club student participants. They put in the extra time and effort in order to improve their math skills.”
