Maywood’s Jane Watkins Honored with King County Earth Hero Award

Maywood’s Jane Watkins Honored with King County Earth Hero Award

Posted by Elizabeth Egan on 24 May, 2018

Congratulations to Maywood Middle School’s Jane Watkins on being honored as a King County Earth Hero earlier this month! Year after year, Jane has advised the student Green Team with the goal of sustaining a culture of sustainability at school. She attends District-wide staff Green Team meetings and shares successes for duplication by the other schools. Projects this year included the annual One Paper Towel Challenge to reduce paper towel waste at school, an analysis of parking lot idling, a staff training on reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting, and an award to recognize acts of greenness at school.

About the King County Earth Heroes Program:

The Earth Heroes at School program celebrates King County students, teachers, staff, and volunteers who implement projects at their school or beyond to protect the environment. The recognition program occurs every other year. Winners are honored at a reception featuring entertainment, refreshments, and presentation of awards.
