Maywood Science Teacher Receives Issaquah Schools Foundation Grant

Posted by User Not Found on 5 March, 2015

Congratulations to Maywood Middle School Science Teacher Mrs. Crouch. Mrs. Crouch was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Issaquah Schools Foundation. The grant money will allow the science department to acquire educational materials to support student learning with lessons on Earth structure, the water cycle, weathering and erosion, and the use of fossil evidence to document change over time.

With the grant money, students will be able to engage in rock cycle lessons by reviewing a set of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks over a period of time. Students will collect evidence and describe what happens as rocks travel through the various pathways of change. After reviewing the rock cycle, students will continue to collect evidence with the use of fossil specimens, organized by epochs and eras. Fossils will help students document major life form changes throughout history. This exciting hands-on learning truly engages students and promotes continued interest in all areas of science.

Mrs. Crouch, the science department, and the students of Maywood would like to give a heart-felt "THANK YOU" to the Issaquah Schools Foundation for providing financial support for classroom materials guaranteed to enhance student learning.
