Hold the Presses

Proactive fourth graders interested in journalism recently started the Creekside Elementary Newspaper Club. Before finding an advisor they created and published the very first edition entirely on their own. Seeing their keen interest in writing April Stevens, Guidance Counselor, offered to be the formal advisor for the Newspaper Club and opened it up to all other students who were interested in joining. The club now meets every other Wednesday morning at 8:30am. In between meetings, students are encouraged to work on their own articles. “The students really run the club. They decide what they want to write about,” explained April. “I just help them pull it all together into a newsletter format.”
