Eagles Accept Rachel’s Challenge

Posted by Jake G. on 15 October, 2013
Maple Hills Elementary students spent a riveting hour learning about the life of Rachel Scott, the first student who died tragically at Columbine High School in 1999. Rachel left a legacy of reaching out to those who were different and felt picked on by others. Nina, a local Rachel’s Challenge speaker, taught the students about Rachel’s kindness and advocacy for others, her dream to have a positive influence in the world, and how Rachel set goals for herself. The students were challenged to accept the five principles of kindness, acceptance, influence, goal setting, and journaling and signed their name to a Rachel’s Challenge banner to show their commitment. The students will receive follow up lessons focused on Rachel’s message and that tie in to the school’s “Soaring Eagle” expectations throughout the year.
