Skyline FCCLA Trio Advocates for Global Eye Health and Wins Gold

Posted by User Not Found on 27 April, 2015

Congratulations to Skyline High School  students Sabrina Fischer, Sanjana Garg, and Emily Jackson who recently won Gold at the Washington Association of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) STAR Events competition. Sabrina, Sanjana, and Emily competed in the advocacy category where they presented their project on the global issue of blindness. Specifically, the trio advocated for individuals in rural and poor areas of India who cannot afford eye care. Through their efforts, the group partnered with the Niramaya Charitable Trust Organization, an organization that works to provide affordable eye care and cataract surgery for those who are not able to receive care otherwise. Originally the trio planned to raise funds to provide for 11 cataract surgeries. During their presentation, they were proud to announce they exceeded that goal and are still fundraising. The three look forward to presenting their project at the National Leadership Conference in Washington, DC in July.
