Skyline High Seniors Recognized by NCWIT Aspirations in Computing

Skyline High Schools seniors, Cindy Kohlleppel and Komal Yadav, were recently recognized by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT). Kohlleppel was selected as a National Award Winner and Yadav as a 2017 National Honorable Mention recipient of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. Kohlleppel will be recognized on March 3rd at the National Ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

Both students are passionate about and actively involved in promoting coding education amongst young women. Kohlleppel is involved in both the University of Washington’s Youth Coding Camps and Microsoft’s YouthSpark program, both of which focus on increased access to computer science education for youth. Yadav is currently an ambassador to Microsoft’s Girls Who Code program, which she attended herself over the summer of her sophomore year. Girls Who Code is a seven-week intensive immersion summer program aiming to close the gender gap in computer science. 

Kohlleppel and Yadav both aspire to continue their computer science education post-graduation from Skyline.

Congratulations to both Cindy and Komal as they continue to pursue their academic interest and passion in computer programming and technology! 

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) honors high school women who are active and interested in computing and technology, and encourages them to pursue their passions. The multi-tiered structure includes recognition at the national and local levels, serving all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guan, and all U.S. overseas military bases.

The NCWIT Award for AiC is sponsored by Apple, Bank of America, Microsoft, Montorola Solutions Foundation, and Symantec. 

Award for AiC recipients are chosen for the demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post-secondary education.
