Superintendent Ron Thiele, Sammamish Mayor Christie Malchow, and Skyline principal Donna Hood joined more than 2,000 people at Central Washington University-Sammamish on February 10 to usher in the Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of Dog. This very first Sammamish Chinese New Year Cultural Celebration was co-organized by the City of Sammamish, Skyline Chinese Classes, and five other organizations.

This year’s celebrations included a traditional dragon dance by Skyline Dragon Dance Team, live music by Skyline Jazz Ensemble, dance and martial arts demonstration by local artists, as well as sixteen interactive booths run by Skyline students, parents and their friends.

The Issaquah School District is a vibrant, multicultural school district. Sharing special Chinese New year customs and celebrations with the community is one of the great ways to celebrate ISD’s diversity and cultural competency.
