Sunny Hills Elementary School Utilizes their Outdoor Learning Spaces to Bring Science to Life

Posted by User Not Found on 13 February, 2015

Throughout the year, first grade students at Sunny Hills Elementary School are paired with fourth grade students who help their younger classmates in their learning. During the spring, these pairs of students head out to the school’s Millennium Garden to literally bring science to life. Together, they identify and measure the development of buds and shrubs. Some of the plants the students measure include Nootka roses, vine maples, and wild flowering currants. The measurements they collect are entered into a national database created to help determine the impacts of global warming. In this photo, first grade students are learning how to use the metric side of a ruler to measure bud development on shrubs in the Millennium Garden.
