PP9-Princess and the Pea

The Princess and the Pea

Leprechauns poured hot sauce into the water, dust bunnies danced at night, and a pea was appointed president. If this doesn’t sound like the original “Princess and the Pea” fairy tale, that’s because it’s not.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre visited Apollo Elementary School during the week of January 12-16, where they worked with more than 63 students to put on the musical production “The Princess and the Pea,” a riff on the original fairy tale.

The production was created in a rapidly paced timeframe. Students auditioned, rehearsed, and performed the musical in five short days.

Principal Susan Mundell shared, “The Missoula Children’s Theatre does an amazing job of incorporating a bunch of our students into a spectacular performance. They work with our students for a full week learning lines and songs as well as working on the and costumes. It’s really a fun experience that our students and parents love.”

At the performance, students were thrilled to see their fellow classmates sing, dance, and act on stage. And while the storyline differed from the original fairy tale, students still learned valuable lessons. Prominent themes throughout the musical included the importance of good manners, kindness to others, understanding that differences and similarities are good, and that girls can have strong leadership roles.
