Three Qualify for State Geography Competition

Congratulations to Luke Hastings, seventh grader at Beaver Lake Middle School; Julian Mydlil, eighth grader at Issaquah Middle School; and Erik Nielsen, eighth grader at Pacific Cascade Middle School. All three students qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee.

The Washington State Geography Bee will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016. State qualified students in grade 4-8 will have the opportunity to compete is preliminary and tie-breaker rounds throughout the day. After scores are tabulated the top 10 scoring state qualifiers will compete in the championship round for a place at the national competition.

Previously, Luke, Julian, and Erik were named National Geographic Bee School Champions at their schools after besting their fellow classmates at world geography. After the school-wide competitions, the school champions completed online exams to qualify for the state competition.
