What/Why: PLMS will be collecting gifts for our sister school, Thorndyke Elementary in Tukwila. It is our chance to come together, change lives, and make it an awesome holiday season for others.
Who: Thorndyke is an amazing school with over 450 incredible kids and 70 staff members. Their students work hard and shine in the classroom. Although many students have faced unspeakable hardship, they are joyful, kind, and resilient.
Facts about Thorndyke:
- One of the most diverse schools in the country, with over 40 different languages spoken.
- Many of their students are refugees who have fled their home country due to disasters, poverty, and war.
- 97% of the school is on free and reduced lunch, which means most kids rely on the school for their daily meals.
- 15% of the Thorndyke students are currently experiencing homelessness.
When: From December 4th through December 16th, each PLMS class will be adopting one Thorndyke class. The goal is to buy a warm winter hat, a pair of warm gloves, a pair of cozy socks and an age-appropriate, non-gender specific $10-$20 toy for every student.
We are also collecting gift cards to Costco, Safeway, Fred Meyer and Target so Thorndyke teachers can buy their students food or clothes throughout the year when necessary.
Ask your child today what he or she signed up for!
The final day to donate is December 16th!
To pull this off, our goal is 100% participation from PLMS students. We want EVERY child at Thorndyke to receive a hat, socks, gloves and one fun item for the holidays! For many Thorndyke students, these gifts will be the only gifts they receive this year.
Please consider donating to this amazing school and this worthy cause!
